![]() ![]() Rooster and Kati sold in January of 2007! Dave and Mari share their experience buying from Fisher Equine below..... A note from Dave: Rooster and Katie ( who is now K.C. and pronounced Casey ). Well, as two jobs go, not exactly the time in the saddle I'd hoped for. I have to learn a few things over from my younger days, so I'm a work in progress. Mari is also busy, but does ride about the place more than I. All of the riding has been on our acreage, but it's a good varied terrain, complete with creek crossings, so it keeps them thinking. The two get along famously, and we still have the two Arabians.....kind of. One is sold , but we have to board him............. the other still for sale. What ever happened at your place with the pecking order and Rooster is now reversed. He rules the roost here, and takes no crap. Actually he's very gentle about it, just lets everyone know the place is his, and they just live in it. No fighting or kicking, so it's a good match. We really like both he and K.C.'s personalities. They both come up, especially K.C. and want attention. A note from Mari: Rooster has been a very pleasant surprise for me. I like to get on him and ride him in the arena - HE'S not too impressed with arena work, but someone somewhere put quite a bit of work into teaching him to do a nice Western Pleasure jog and he's got a GREAT headset when I work with him. Rooster on the other hand MUCH prefers when Dave takes him out because there are always trees to go through and creeks and ditches to cross. I've changed Kati's name to K.C. It seems to suit her a bit better - she's much more assertive and less ladylike than a Kati would imply. Not to say she's not sweet - she is always chasing everyone else away so I'll give her loves and scratches. She will come up to me in the pasture and shove me with her nose and demand that I pet her. She'll stand and put her head on my chest and let me rest my forehead on hers - we can stand like that for a very long time... She's the most trusting little horse - whatever I ask of her she's game to try. I've had her down hills, slogging through muck that would suck your boots off, and walking upstream in a creek. She was hesitant at first but Rooster had already gone on, and I just let her think about things so she figured that it would be all right, so she just did it. She's starting to really fill out and not look like such a baby any more. She's going to be built like a tank if she keeps on going this way. She also is changing color - she's developed ticking all over her body - at first I thought she may even be trying to go roan, but there's not enough white for that - just white flecks everywhere. I did hop on K.C. (somehow Katie just didn't fit - K.C. suits her better) a couple of weeks ago, and for a young horse that didn't get ridden much last summer she was WONDERFUL! Everything I asked of her she tried. I'm going to be working on her in the snaffle some more this spring then I'm going to try and remember everything I learned about Bosal work (I learned from a hackamore trainer when I was 19 - should be interesting to try to recall everything). She's such a fun, sweet mare although she does have a mind of her own. Some days she seems to get bored and will try to egg everyone on to race with her. I'll see her running across the field just for the sheer joy of running. Sometimes Rooster will run with her but of all 4 horses she's the one who will get hot and sweaty before she quits. She has a LOT of ambition! Thanks for everything! Dave & Mari in Corvallis, MT |
