A big stout gentle gelding that has been ridden a thousand miles in the backcountry of Montana and Idaho. He has a good walk & is very surefooted when crossing water, down fall, steep rugged mountain passes and rugged slopes. He is not afraid when he sees elk, moose, bear, etc, he has always stayed calm and senseable. He has pulled pack strings on him and packed him a lot he goes anywhere you put him. He is very strong when climbing in steep rough country, always keeping his feet under him, he will take the lead or put him in the string. He has a smooth slow lope and picks up his leads well. He hauls, loads, clips, shoes, saddles quiet all with good ground manners. He has no bad habits, he side passes, opens/shuts gates, backs, stops, he has had some work on buffalo. River is a versatile and seasoned mountain and trail horse with the experience it takes to be solid!
